Solomon and the Queen of Sheba![]()
King Solomon Shows the Queen of Sheba the Plans for the Temple which are Held by his Architect, Hiram
Oil on canvas, 1760 The visit of the Queen of Sheba to Solomon is a theme found in Masonic ritual and artwork from at least the mid-1700s. Here she is shown inspecting the Temple plans, while being conducted around the Temple grounds by Solomon. Examples of this in Masonic ritual or context would be the Ritual of the Installed Master (Great Britain and Canada), the Installed Sovereign Master degree (United States), an engraving in the first Book of Constitutions of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts (1798), John Harris' second version of the Fellow Craft tracing board (1845), and the Queen of the South degree of the Robert Macoy's American Adoptive Rite. |
